London, UK - On the 31st August 2011 Caribbean Savouries launches 3 new products available in the Ethnic frozen section of ASDA stores across the nation. The first 2 products are Cassava based products, also known as "Bammy".
Bammies will be available in two formats, Sticks and Cocktails. The third product is Sweet Ripe Plantains. The sweet ripe plantain is easy to prepare in the microwave, ready in just one minute or heat a portion in the oven for 10 minutes. Ideal as a side dish, they can also be eaten for breakfast with toast along with your favourite spread.
In Jamaica "Bammy" is a popular meal enjoyed by both residents and visitors of the tropical island. It is made from Cassava root (a vegetable in the yam family); which is very rich in starch and contains significant amounts of calcium, dietary fiber, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin b6 and vitamin C and is also Gluten Free.
Plantain is a "Banana-like" vegetable which can be served with a savoury main course or with dessert. Scientific studies have also suggested that plantains may be useful in preventing or treating kidney and bladder problems. A cup of sliced plantain only contains 181 calories. Plantains contain ten times more beta carotene than bananas, as well as having a good supply of Vitamins A, C, B6, potassium, folate, iron, and magnesium. The amount of Vitamin A in the fruit depends on the colour. The yellower the flesh, the more Vitamin A it contains. A deep yellow fruit can provide as much as 1200 IU’s of Vitamin A in a 3.5 ounce serving; this is how the product is prepared the fruit yellow, ripe and sweet.
The products are perfect for special occasions such as parties and weddings or for family meals.
Watch out for our organic Juices and Sauces, Jams and Chutney which will be launched this winter. Our products are premium and authentic a must for your shopping basket.
